Racism can occur without intention or recognition, but its impact is toxic.
Black Americans are 30% more likely to be physically restrained when experiencing mental health emergencies. More than half of all Black children will experience a child-welfare investigation by the time they reach age 18, and Black mothers are more likely to be subjected to unnecessary urine drug screens that can lead to child welfare involvement. Shockingly, over 75% of quality of care indicators are staying the same or getting worse for all racially minoritized people in the United States.
